ABOUT

Sustainable Democracy is a (NPO) nonprofit organization, founded in 2013 by a group of Sudanese – Americans. In March 2020, it was recognized as a tax-exempt organization under internal revenue code IRS, Section 501 (C) (3).
 
Sustainable Democracy is established for the purpose of promoting Sudan’s good governance, democracy, and development, through; organizing, mobilizing, empowering local communities especially women and youth, fostering civic education, supporting independent media, monitoring elections as well as implementing small projects. We strongly believe and value partnership with individuals, groups, organizations and entities who believe in, or share similar values and goals to join the collaborative efforts to benefit people of Sudan.
 
Sustainable Democracy is aware of Sudan’s geopolitical position, and its potential economic resources, hence the importance of its stability to the region and to the world. Therefore; we are committed to advocate for stability and civilian led government, human rights, social justice, economic prosperity and peaceful coexistence within the Sudanese diverse communities.
 
Sustainable Democracy has an executive office team besides its board of directors.The team’s roles are to keep the organization up and running to achieve its goals and objectives.
 
Since its establishment 10 years ago, Sustainable Democracy has conducted dozens of seminars and conferences, in person; they were attended by considerable number of Sudanese across the political spectrum. Primary goal for these activities is to find a common ground, to generate ideas to support democracy, and to eliminate military rule in Sudan. In addition, there were more than 20 conference calls and zoom seminars held to discuss a wide range of topics, such as encouraging Sudanese to engage, participate, and vote in their local levels and the general US elections, exploring and finding ways to financially support activists inside the Sudan, and lobbying the US decision makers to support Sudanese call for democracy and development. In addition, many letters were sent to Congress representatives seeking their support to end Sudan’s wars and dictatorship/ military role.
